What is the ECCP?

The Community of Practice (CoP) on Environment, Climate, Conflict, and Peace (ECCP) is a global network that brings together individuals and institutions working on topics related to environment, climate, conservation, conflict, peace, governance, development, human rights, and humanitarian action. The ECCP offers structures for relationship-building, shared learning, and joint action in policy and practice, with an emphasis on exchange. The community cultivates a rich and fertile ecosystem of dialogue across topics, domains, and layers of the international system, nurturing connection between civil society, international and regional organizations, governments, and financial institutions.

The ECCP comes together in a few different ways.

Because ECCP members are based all over the world, our primary mode of coming together is online. The vast majority of our meetings are held on zoom.

  • Each month, we have a Monthly Meeting, which is an open space for networking and exchange. All are welcome; no preparation required.

  • There are different ongoing discussion groups that meet on a regular basis on specific topics. You can find more information on those groups below.

  • Any member can propose an online “briefing” on a specific topic, either proposing themselves or someone else as the presenter. Briefings typically last 1 hour, including about 20 minutes of presentation and 40 minutes of facilitated discussion. Email ecosystemforpeace@gmail.com with your ideas.

We also have a number of place-based chapters in places where there is a concentration of ECCP members. Each chapter strives to host at least one in-person meet-up per year. Learn more about chapters on this page.

The community works on ad hoc pop-up projects, such as this editable glossary of terms related to business, human rights, conflict, and environment. Additional projects will be linked here as they evolve.

And finally, our Community has an annual cycle for its very-own Community Fund. The purpose of the ECCP Community Fund is to provide financial support to specific projects within the Community of Practice initiated by community members. Learn more about the ECCP Community Fund on this page.
