Reunimos a profesionales, académicxs, responsables de políticas públicas y personas practicantes de toda América Latina y el Caribe para intercambiar conocimientos, promover la colaboración y visibilizar las perspectivas y experiencias latinoamericanas en los diálogos globales sobre la construcción de paz ambiental.

Nos comprometemos a fortalecer la inclusión de las personas hispanohablantes y a facilitar los debates en español. El Capítulo ECCP LATAM facilita:

• Animación y Participación: Compartiendo actualizaciones relevantes, noticias y oportunidades globales; fomentando la participación regular y promoviendo el intercambio de ideas entre lxs miembrxs.

• Colaboración en Proyectos: Conectando a lxs miembrxs en torno a temas e intereses compartidos, y brindando apoyo para transformar ideas en proyectos, alianzas y eventos concretos.

• Diálogo y Documentación: Organizando y apoyando reuniones virtuales del capítulo para intercambiar experiencias y coordinar esfuerzos regionales.

• Vinculación Global: Transmitiendo las perspectivas, eventos y estudios de caso latinoamericanos a la comunidad global de ECCP.

Connecting Eastern and the Horn of Africa to Global Conversations on Environment, Climate, Conflict, and Peace

Welcome to the ECCP Nairobi Region

The ECCP Nairobi Region is the regional coordination hub of the global Environment, Climate, Conflict and Peace (ECCP) Community of Practice for Eastern and the Horn of Africa. Based in Nairobi, Kenya, we bring together practitioners, researchers, policymakers, civil society organisations, development partners, academics, youth leaders, and community actors working across the environment, climate, conflict, and peace nexus.

Mission

Our mission is to strengthen regional collaboration, promote knowledge exchange, facilitate partnerships, and ensure that regional experiences and innovations contribute to global environmental peacebuilding conversations. As part of the global ECCP Community of Practice co- hosted by the Centre on Conflict, Development and Peacebuilding (CCDP) at the Geneva Graduate Institute and the Environmental Peacebuilding Association (EnPAx), we provide an inclusive platform where diverse perspectives come together to learn, collaborate, and inspire action.

While English is our primary language of communication, we welcome participation from people of all backgrounds and languages across the region.

What We Do

The ECCP Nairobi Region serves as a collaborative platform for individuals and organisations working on the interconnected challenges of environment, climate, conflict, and peace. We:

• Build and strengthen a vibrant regional community of practice.

• Facilitate knowledge sharing through webinars, newsletters, and learning resources.

• Convene regular dialogues on emerging regional priorities and environmental peacebuilding.

• Connect members with opportunities for collaboration, research, partnerships, and joint initiatives.

• Amplify the voices, experiences, and innovations of Eastern and the Horn of Africa within the global ECCP network.

• Promote inclusive participation and cross-sector collaboration to support sustainable peace and climate resilience.

Our Community

The ECCP Nairobi Region welcomes researchers, practitioners, policymakers, civil society organisations, development partners, youth leaders, students, and community actors who are committed to advancing environmental peacebuilding across Eastern and the Horn of Africa.

Since its establishment, the chapter has continued to grow as a regional space for dialogue and collaboration. ECCP Nairobi met twice in person in 2024, twice in person in 2025, and once in person so far in 2026, alongside ongoing virtual engagement and collaboration across the region.

Together, we are strengthening regional cooperation and ensuring that the voices and experiences of Eastern and the Horn of Africa contribute to global solutions at the intersection of environment, climate, conflict, and peace.

The ECCP's Central Asia chapter is organized through an independent project hosted by the PeaceNexus Foundation's Central Asia team: From Conservation to Cooperation: A Regional Peer Learning Initiative (2026–2028)

Background: 

Environmental organizations in Central Asia increasingly operate in contexts where achieving conservation outcomes depends on effective collaboration among a wide range of stakeholders, including local communities, local authorities, government institutions, and, in some cases, neighboring countries. Whether working on biodiversity conservation, climate change adaptation, or water resource management, practitioners regularly encounter competing interests, questions of access to natural resources, and complex relationships among stakeholders.

Many organizations already employ dialogue-based, participatory, and collaborative approaches in their work, although they do not necessarily frame these practices through the lens of environmental peacebuilding. At the same time, the concept of environmental peacebuilding remains relatively new in Central Asia and is often associated primarily with regions affected by armed conflict. To date, there has been certain effort to explore what environmental peacebuilding means in the Central Asian context or how the approach can be applied by different environmental organizations in ways that reflect their respective mandates and local realities.

Purpose:
This initiative seeks to address this gap by establishing a series of collaborative learning and experience-sharing activities focused on the practical interpretation of environmental peacebuilding. Rather than promoting a predefined methodology, participants will jointly reflect on their own experience, examine how environmental initiatives can strengthen cooperation, identify and address existing conflict risks, and develop a practical understanding of conflict-sensitive approaches across different environmental sectors.

The goal of the initiative is to strengthen conflict-sensitive environmental practice across Central Asia by jointly exploring the concept of environmental peacebuilding through the experiences of diverse environmental organizations and by developing practical, sector-specific guidance that reflects regional realities and local contexts.

There is a concentration of ECCP members in Germany who are regularly in touch with the following goals:

• Discussion and coordination on policy interests in the German climate sector

• Identifying shared interests and synergies, alignment on action points

• Horizon scanning for opportunities to undertake joint advocacy and messaging in the German context (e.g. policy events and conferences)

• Coordination ahead of BCSC 2026 and side events

The most recent meet-up was held in October 2025. After an online meeting in March 2026, the group is currently planning an in-person meet-up at 16h on 18 May.

The ECCP: London chapter meets in person 2-3 times per year for a discussion on topics relevant to environment, climate, conflict, and peace and UK policy.

The most recent ECCP London meetup was held on 31 March 2026.

The ECCP was created by the Geneva Peacebuilding Platform and grew out of an ecoystem of actors in Geneva, Switzerland. This chapter has a WhatsApp group for informal and quick coordination.
